Son of the Mask trivia

• Years before this sequel was made, there was at some point plans for an earlier sequel to _The Mask (1994)_ (qv), called “The Mask II”, but that project was canceled. There was even a contest from Nintendo Power magazine where first prize was a walk-on role in that movie.
• Tim Avery was an animator transformed by the Mask into a human cartoon character. ‘Jim Carrey’ (qv), who starred in the previous movie, played an animator in _”The Duck Factory” (1984)_ (qv).
• The character name Tim Avery is a reference to the cartoonist ‘Tex Avery’ (qv).
• Two dogs were used in the film to play “Otis”. They had their fur dyed in patches so that they matched on screen. The talented dogs were each taught different tricks.
• ‘Ben Stein (I)’ (qv) is the only actor in this sequel who was also in _The Mask (1994)_ (qv). He reprises his role as Dr. Arthur Neuman.

Son of the Mask goofs

• CONT: When Tim Avery is fighting with Loki at the end of the movie, he takes off the mask. In the next shot, he isn’t holding it.
• FAKE: When Tim wakes up to feed the baby at night, he smashes the light, but it stays on.
• SYNC: When Odin is walking at the end with his staff, it hits the floor three times, but you see it hit the floor more than that.
• SYNC: When Tim is playing _Mario Kart: Super Circuit (2001) (VG)_ (qv) we hear sound effects that are not from the game.
• CONT: When Tim Avery is telling Loki and his dad that they should be happy together, he doesn’t have the mask. When he says to them, “Here, you know what? Just take it.”, it appears in his hands.
