Speed 2: Cruise Control plot

• Annie Porter is thrilled when her boyfriend Alex Shaw presents her with two tickets for a cruise to the Bahamas on a Norwegian luxury liner. The trip is a peace offering presented because Annie has just learned that Alex is a police officer who’s been lying to her about his choice of profession. Alex lied because Annie didn’t want to date any more cops after what happened with the bus in Los Angeles. The cruise ship’s passengers include members of a diamond dealers’ association, who have filled the ship’s vault with valuable diamonds. Little do they know that passenger John Geiger, the designer of the ship’s computer system, has planned to take over the ship, steal the diamonds, and set the ship on a collision course with an oil tanker anchored at the island of St. Martin. Geiger was fired and cast aside by the computer company he worked for, and he wants revenge. Now it’s up to Alex to stop him.

Speed 2: Cruise Control trivia

• The filmmakers chartered the Seabourn Legend for 6 weeks. Additional scenes were filmed using a false prow built onto the freighter Sturgeon Atlantic.
• ‘Gary Oldman’ (qv) turned down the role of the villain, and instead chose to make _Air Force One (1997)_ (qv).
• A total of 3 different ships were used in this film: Seaborn Legend (actual cruise liner; used for most exterior shots of the ship) “Bridge Ship” (Sturgeon Atlanic frighter ship built with a false hull and bridge; used for bridge scenes and the boat crashes in the marina) “Rail Ship” (false hull built on an underwater rail; used for the island crash finale scene). All other shots of the ship were complete computer graphic effects.
• ‘Keanu Reeves’ (qv) turned down the movie to go on tour with his band Dogstar.
• ‘Sandra Bullock’ (qv)’s character Annie was not given a last name at all in _Speed (1994/I)_ (qv). movie. Here, it is revealed to be Porter.
